Bantry Traditional Music Concerts

The Masters of Tradition concerts in Bantry begin tomorrow night at the Maritime Hotel where Christy Moore and Martin Hayes on fiddle, Dennis Cahill, guitar and accordionist Damien Mullane at 7.30 there are still some tickets left. Then on Wednesday at St. Brendans Church Bantry at 7.30 Martin Hayes and Dennis Cahill will be joinde by yvonne and Liz Kane and Aine Meenaghan singer at 7.30. Then on thursday night at St Brendans Church again a concert with Caoimhin o Raghallaigh fiddle, Eoghan O Sulleabhain accordion, Edel Gox concertina and Pat o’Connor fiddle. On Friday August 13th in Bantry House you have Liz Kane fiddle, David Flynn fiddle, Brendan Begley accordion that concert starts at 7.30 then at 10.30 Kerean Hanrahan banjo, Geraldine Cotter tin whistle and piano, and Eamonn Cotter flute. On Sat 14th again at Bantry House at 7.30 John Flanagan and Sean Tyrell singer, Martin Hayes fiddle, Peadar O Riada concertina. At 10.30 Frankie Gavin fiddle, Martin Hayes and singer Sean Tyrell. A feast of trad music with the very best of musicians note the Sunday night concert is booked out.

Bantrys" Masters of Tradition" festival

From August 10th – 15th Bantry once again has the privilege of hosting these concerts with the best of traditional music . On Tuesday 10th The Maritime hotel the “Masters Benefit” concert with Martin Hayes, Dennis Cahill, Damien Mullane and Christy Moore, I attended one with Christy and Martin Hayes last year and it was superb. On Sunday at 22.30 at Bantry House you have Eamonn Cotter flute, Kevin Hanrahan banjo, and Geraldine Cotter tin whistle and piano, these are some examples of how much talent can be enjoyed. There is still time to attend some of the amazing events this year in Bantry. Workshops in fiction writing, short story writing, journalism, Graphic and fantasy novel and the all important publishing. Some evening events with e.g Tim Mackintosh – Smith, Mary Drabble, Fay Weldon, Michael Palin (he is now actually sold out). Just a reminder about the above festival and if you wish to attend some of the events/workshops you need to book tickets a.s.a.p as alot of them are sold out. You can for example still get tickets to attend “Literary Agent” event that is on Monday 5th – Friday 9th July for the price of €175 where you will get lots of tips on how to get published and the presentation of writing and editing and how to promote your book etc… you can also attend Owen O’Neills workshop on how to perform and write poetry Tues 6th – Thurs 8th for €100 where you will learn how to structure your writing and how to get accross to the reader the humour and also the serious points of your writing.

A very interesting idea and you can go and enjoy during the festival i.e to watch irish based violin makers Bertrand Galen and Jeremie Legrand who will demonstrate and also offer an exhibition of violas, violins and celli, you will also be able to listen to them being played how wonderful. Bantry West Cork Chamber music and Literary Festivals

Deirdre Purcell writer and broadcaster will open/launch the 15th West Cork Chamber Music festival and the West Cork Literary festival on Friday April 16th at the Maritime Hotel at 8pm. All are welcome. Then the R.T,E Vanburgh Quartet will perform the pre-launch concert as part of National Music Day, the concert is free of charge so you wont need to book any ticket . It will be held at St. Brendans Church. The West Cork Chamber Music Festival will run from June 25th – July 3rd and the Literary festival will run from July 4th – 10th. A Bantry night for Haiti

On Friday March 18th there will be a fundraising night for Haiti at the Maritime Hotel with loads of Bantry Talent and more e.g Brian Casey, the band Berries Blue, singers Megan Weidner, Noel Maguire,Claire’s coel and more Tickets are €10 and doors open at 8.30, there will be finger food and when you purchase a drink a percentage will go to the cause as well.
